BMW and TVS Motor Announce Extension of Partnership for Electric Vehicles and New Technologies

BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor Company announced today (15) that they are extending and expanding their long-term partnership by jointly developing new platforms and future technologies, including electric vehicles such as electric motorcycles and scooters.

With this, TVS Motor will carry out the design and development of future BMW Motorrad products and deliver world-class quality, supply chain management and industrialization.

For those who don’t know, in April 2013, TVS Motor and BMW Motorrad signed a partnership to manufacture up to 500cc motorcycles that would be marketed worldwide. The result, so far, has been the production of three models: BMW G 310 R, BMW 310 GS and TVS Apache RR 310.

Now, they are trying to venture into a new segment, the electric, as there is a global need to replace vehicles that use fossil fuels with electric ones. BMW Motorrad already has products in this category, such as the CE 04 scooter and the CE 02 motorcycle. So does TVS Motor, as it recently launched the TVS iQube.

The two companies will develop common platforms, mutually exploiting emerging technologies in the future mobility space, bearing in mind the global requirements of customer segments in various markets.

Exclusive products for both companies will be developed on these common platforms and the companies will sell their products globally. TVS Motor will continue to bring on board engineering prowess in design, manufacturing and supply chain capabilities and deliver best-in-class quality and economic advantage. The first product through this cooperation will be presented in the next 24 months.
