Yamaha YZF-R7 based on MT-07 may arrive in 2021. Teaser is released
A new Yamaha sports bike called YZF-R7, and based on the MT-07, can be launched as early as 2021. The company has just released a teaser video on YouTube and, some believe, by the sound, it could be the new model.
See below the teaser released on the Yamaha Motor Europe channel on YouTube:
The German website motorradonline states that a sports bike of the brand will be launched in 2021, which the teaser contributes even more to this statement. We remind you that, officially, we have nothing confirmed.
According to them, the filings with the American agency CARB (California Air Resources Board), indicates that this sports model will fill the space left by the YZF-R6. In addition, they inform that at least two colors will be available: Blue (Racing Blue) and Black.
For those who do not know, Yamaha has decided to end production of the supersport YZF-R6, leaving only track versions available.
With this, there is a gap that needs to be filled, more precisely between the YZF-R3 (321cc) and YZF-R1 (1000cc model).
The new sportbike, being based on the MT-07, would have a 689 cm³ 2-cylinder engine, capable of generating up to 74.8 HP of maximum power.
With that, it would compete, mainly, with the Honda CBR 650R and the Kawasaki Ninja 650, being fun with just enough power.
Remember that the CP2 engine that equips the MT-07 is also used in other models, such as the Tracer 7 and the Ténéré 700.
Anyway, apparently, a new medium sportbike with a not-so-salty price is coming. The YZF-R6 was an excellent supersport bike, but the price was prohibitive (it came close to the price of a 1000cc sportbike in some countries).
