Ultra-exclusive 2022 KTM RC 8C sells out in less than 5 minutes; meet this extreme motorcycle
KTM announced that the 2022 RC 8C, its ultra-exclusive and limited production motorcycle, for use only on the closed track, sold out in less than 5 minutes.
According to the brand, pre-sales started on July 22nd at 16:00 CEST and, after just 4 minutes and 32 seconds, all 100 units had already been sold. 25 of the buyers chose to receive the model at an event scheduled for the Jerez circuit, in Spain.
The 2022 KTM RC 8C is an ‘entry’ bike to the supersport world, inspired by its MotoGP model and is offered in a ‘user-friendly’ package or, in other words, a little easier to ride than a Grand Prix bike.
Co-engineered in close partnership with Krämer Motorcycles, the KTM RC 8C is built using high-performance racing components, but makes use of an LC8c production engine – like the one used in the KTM 890 DUKE R.
According to KTM, the idea was to create a track motorcycle capable of producing the highest levels of performance and handling, without the need for overly sophisticated electronics or unobtainable tools in the pits.
How is KTM RC 8C
The 2022 KTM RC 8C is a lightweight racing prototype that uses the familiar LC8c engine of the KTM 890 DUKE R in a bespoke track-ready chassis packed with state-of-the-art racing components.
In essence, the KTM RC 8C allows customers the opportunity to own a machine that is as close as possible to a factory race bike – without the downsides of needing a specialized racing team to maintain it.
Designed to be 100% ready for the track, the KTM RC 8C is a completely hand-built machine, powered by a high-torque production engine for easy maintenance.
Underneath the KTM RC16-inspired carbon Kevlar reinforced GRP bodywork is an 889cc, parallel two-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 128 HP. It is bolted to a chrome steel tubular frame, which is stronger than normal steel.
The bike’s dry weight is just 140 kg and, as a result, the power/weight ratio is close to 1:1, which makes clear its vocation for the track.
The front suspension features a handcrafted 43mm WP APEX PRO 7543 closed cartridge inverted fork made of high quality, lightweight material. Developed with the experience gained from KTM Factory Racing’s efforts at various international championships, the suspension is assembled in the same department that builds and maintains the KTM RC16 suspension, ensuring the best performance for race-oriented motorcyclists and professional riders. The fork also features zero hydraulic stroke limitation, which means riders can continuously control the damping properties.
A WP APEX PRO 7746 rear shock with preload regulator can be easily adjusted to suit every rider and almost any situation via separate high and low speed compression and rebound settings.
Brakes are equipped with Brembo racing specification equipment, with Brembo Stylema front brake calipers with 290 mm fully floating brake discs. At the rear, a two-piston Brembo caliper with a 230 mm fully floating disc.
The KTM RC 8C is also equipped with a Brembo 19RCS CORSA CORTA radial master cylinder, which features a number of innovations, with many of the technical solutions taken directly from the master cylinders used in MotoGP.
Finally, this unique bike uses the AIM MXS 1.2 RACE panel and data logger with integrated GPS function. All information is displayed via a 5“ TFT display with integrated data recording.
