2021 Yamaha MT-09 is launched in Europe with new front, panel and engine
Yamaha launched the new 2021 MT-09 in Europe, which comes fully updated, with a bigger engine, a new front and a digital TFT color panel.
The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 now gets a larger engine, to comply with the new Euro5.
Now, it goes from 847 cm³ to 890 cm³, allowing it to reduce emissions and, in addition, gain a few more horses, jumping from 115 to 120 HP of maximum power.
The new MT-09 gained a new frontal optical set, adopting the unique LED cannon for high and low beam. In addition, the model has two vertical lines also in LED on the sides of the headlight, for daytime running light (DRL).
All lighting is now LED, that is, headlight, flashlights and turn signals rely on this technology.
Still in relation to the design, it received a new fuel tank with new lines and new air intakes, in addition to the plate support on the rear tail (in the previous model, it was attached to the swing arm).
Mechanical and technological improvements
New 889 cm³ engine
The newly developed 889 cm³ liquid-cooled 3-cylinder engine is lighter, faster and more powerful, with more torque at lower revs.
A new air intake and exhaust produce a beautiful sound that increases the feeling of acceleration.
New fuel injectors provide greater efficiency, while optimized gear ratios and a refined assistand slip clutch combine with the increased power of the EU5-compatible engine.
New cast aluminum frame
The frame is entirely new in cast aluminum, a modern version of the Deltabox layout, i.e., higher level of chassis stiffness for better riding feedback, stability and increased dynamic handling.
6-axis IMU plus driver-sensitive aids
Furthermore, the new compact 6-axis IMU developed from the YZF-R1 supersport, governs the high-tech auxiliaries of the MT-09, including a tilt-sensitive 3-mode Traction Control System (TCS), Slip Control System ( SCS), LIFt Control System of the front wheel (LIF – upright control) and Brake Control System (BC).
With this best-in-class electronic control technology, the all-new 2021 MT-09 offers maximum control in different climatic and surface conditions.
New Quick Shift System
The new Quick Shifter System up and down enhances the sporty driving experience, allowing super-fast upshifts for remarkable acceleration from the more powerful 889cc CP3 engine.
The downshift function allows for smoother shifts that maintain chassis stability even when cornering, to give a more controlled feel when slowing down.
New forged wheels
Weighing 700g less than the previous model, the new Spin Forged wheels provide exceptional chassis agility by reducing the moment of inertia at the rear by 11%.
This reduced unsprung weight also improves suspension performance and contributes to an impressive 9% improvement in fuel efficiency.
Adjustable suspension
Fully adjustable 41 mm front forks work with optimized settings that match the character of the new compact, high-rigidity frame and reduce the inclination trend, providing a smoother, more controlled ride.
The adjustable rear suspension features new configurations as well as a revised articulation to match the new high-rigidity swingarm.
Radial front brake master cylinder
The new MT-09’s state-of-the-art braking system is equipped with a radial front master cylinder that produces a linear supply of hydraulic pressure to the 4-piston calipers mounted on the 298 mm double front discs, consequently providing excellent controlled braking performance at your fingertips.
This is only the second Yamaha production to benefit from this advanced racing technology.
New color TFT digital panel
The 3.5-inch color TFT display has a bar-type tachometer that changes color as the speed goes up or down, as well as a watch and fuel gauge, average mileage, water temperature, air temperature and a gear indicator.
And, equally important, it is no longer placed to the right, it is completely centered.
Handlebar switches allow you to easily change displays and information, as well as adjust settings for optional Yamaha original handle warmers.
