2021 Triumph Speed Twin gains mechanical and technological improvements
Triumph launched in the UK, the new 2021 Speed Twin, its classic motorcycle inspired by the 1938 Speed Twin, which arrives with mechanical and technological improvements.
The model gained more power and optimized peak torque, better handling, improved technology and even more premium style and custom details.
Design
The 2021 Triumph Speed Twin carries the Street Twin’s contemporary custom styling, but adds even more beautiful premium details.
It’s characterized by the beautifully sculpted 14-litre fuel tank, custom-styled seat, sculpted side panels with brushed aluminum accents, dual sport mufflers and modern handlebar end mirrors.
For 2021, the Speed Twin is available in three color schemes: Red Hopper (Red), Matt Storm Gray (Matte Gray with subtle yellow accents) and Jet Black (Black).
Engine and Gearbox
The 2021 Speed Twin received improvements to its 1200cc engine, delivering more power, optimized peak torque and lower pollutant emissions (now, Euro 5 compliant).
The engine is a liquid-cooled 1200 cm³ parallel twin cylinder, which is now capable of generating up to 100 HP of maximum power at 7,250 rpm (3 HP more than the previous model) and 112 Nm / 11.5 kgfm of torque at 4,250 rpm (reduced more than 500 rpm peak, compared to the previous generation).
In addition, the Speed Twin engine’s responsiveness has also been improved, thanks to a 17% reduction in inertia, achieved through a new lightweight crankshaft and alternator.
Chassis
The new 2021 Speed Twin arrives with a superior specification front suspension, 43mm USD forks, from Marzocchi, allowing a more confident and comfortable ride.
It is complemented with dual rear shock absorbers with adjustable spring preload.
In terms of braking, it got Brembo M50 4-piston brake calipers and radial mounting, at the front, with 320 mm discs also from Brembo. At the rear, the caliper is Nissin with 2 pistons.
In addition, it received new 12-spoke cast aluminum wheels, equipped with new Metzeler Racetec RR tires, measuring 120/70-17 at the front and 160/60-17 at the rear.
Technology
The 2021 Speed Twin has an electronic throttle ride-by-wire system, which ensures precise throttle control and allows three driving modes: Rain, Road and Sport. They have been enhanced for 2021 by adjusting throttle response and traction control settings.
It gained LED in the taillight and turn signals, in addition to DRL – Daytime Running Lighting, but the headlamp is still the traditional one with a halogen lamp.
The instrument panel is dual analog, with a digital menu screen, which allows viewing the gear position, trip 1 and 2, fuel level, as well as average and current consumption, access to traction control settings, among others.
