Yamaha launches new 2025 NMAX TURBO: New design, more technology and Turbo ‘feel’
Yamaha launched the new 2025 NMAX TURBO in Indonesia. No, you’re not reading it wrong, it’s actually Turbo, referring to those turbocharged cars. But there’s a catch: the model is not equipped with a Turbocharger, it just has technology that gives the sensation of a Turbo (in Yamaha’s own words).
Let’s explain the news: The new NMAX TURBO has a new technology called YECVT (Yamaha Electric Continuously Variable Transmission), which replaces the conventional CVT transmission. It is this system that gives an extra push when necessary.
There is a button on the left handle to activate the turbo (Y-Shift), which can be set to 3 levels: low, medium and high. When overtaking, for example, you can activate the turbo, which will give you that extra push to go faster. Therefore, the company says that you get the ‘feeling’ of Turbo.
Furthermore, with this technology, the scooter gained 2 riding modes: T-Mode (for city) and S-Mode (sport mode). T-Mode is suitable for everyday urban use as it delivers smoother power and saves fuel. S-Mode delivers everything the bike has, and is ideal for the road.
In terms of design, the NMAX TURBO gained more modern lines, mainly at the front and rear, with a new headlight equipped with two LED projectors, and a new LED taillight at the rear.
In the cockpit, the model also evolved: it gained a panel similar to the XMAX, with an LCD screen in the most basic versions (but with the Y-Connect system), and a color TFT screen in the top-of-the-line versions. This latest version also features the Garmin Street Cross Navigation System. There is also a USB-C socket to charge your Smartphone.
Completing the technological package are two-channel ABS, Traction Control, the Smart Key system, and the Stop & Start system (which turns off the engine when stopping at traffic lights to save fuel).
The NMAX TURBO engine is a 155 cm³ Blue Core single-cylinder, VVA, 4 Valves, SOHC + YECVT, capable of generating up to 11.3 kW (15.36 HP) of maximum power, and 14.2 Nm of torque.
Finally, the model is offered in Indonesia in 5 different versions (from the most basic to the most complete): NMAX NEO, NMAX NEO S, NMAX TURBO, NMAX TURBO TECH MAX, and NMAX TURBO TECH MAX ULTIMATE. This latest top version sells for IDR 45,250,000 (approximately US$ 2,789).
