BMW presents F 450 GS to compete in the mid-range segment
BMW presented in Europe the F 450 GS concept, its 450cc adventure bike, which will give rise to a bike with the same characteristics to compete in the medium-displacement segment.
This segment seems to be the talk of the town for many brands. Triumph, for example, already has its 400cc single-cylinders, the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X. Another example is Royal Enfield, with its new Himalayan 450 and Guerrilla 450.
Now, the German company will produce the F 450 GS to fill a gap in its catalog, between the ‘small’ G 310 GS and the F 800 GS. According to the first data released, the new bike will follow more in the line of the F 800 GS, with a lot of off-road capability.
The design of the new bike is entirely based on its bigger ‘sister’ R 1300 GS, featuring modern and aggressive lines, and Full-LED lighting with the characteristic ‘X’ DRL at the front.
To stand out in the segment, BMW guarantees cutting-edge technological items that are even new to a low/medium displacement model. Highlights include the fully adjustable inverted front suspension and shock absorbers inspired by rally and enduro technologies.
The F 450 GS engine was developed from scratch, it is a 450cc parallel twin cylinder with liquid cooling, capable of generating up to 48 hp of maximum power, and “excellent torque at low revs”, without specifying the numbers.
In terms of technology, the model will come with the advanced BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, configurable riding modes, and a 6.5-inch color TFT panel with Smartphone connection.
Anyway, BMW says it plans to launch the new F 450 GS in 2025.
