2021 Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 launched: BigTrail with 1250cc engine
Harley-Davidson launched its adventurous ‘BigTrail’ 2021 Pan America 1250 in the United States, which arrives with a 1,250 cm³ engine called Revolution Max and 150 HP.
The Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 2021 has a unique design, especially on the front. According to the brand, there is “technology behind the design”. The LED headlight is in a horizontal position. The front turn signals are located further down, inside the side fairings, giving the impression of auxiliary headlights.
In their word, “Pan America is a two-wheel multi-tool built to endure, designed to explore, and engineered for adventure.”
There are two versions available: 2021 Pan America 1250 and 2021 Pan America 1250 Special. The first is the “basic” model and the second brings, more items, such as semi-active front and rear suspension (with adaptive height and vehicle load control), tire pressure monitoring system, center stand, engine protection bars / brush guards, hand guards / hand wind deflectors, heated hand grips, among others.
Both versions leave the factory with aluminum alloy wheels, but there are, as an option, the spoked wheels (aluminum rim, steel spokes), measuring 19 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear. In addition, the tires are dual purpose, developed in conjunction with Michelin, called Michelin SCORCHER Adventure.
It also has an inverted front suspension and Brembo brakes, with a double disc at the front, with 4-piston calipers.
Powertrain
The new Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 2021 brings a new powertrain, consisting of a new engine (which is now structure component of the chassis / frame), and final chain drive.
The engine is the new Revolution Max, a V-Twin 60° with 1,250 cm³ with liquid cooling, capable of generating up to 150 HP (112 kW) of maximum power at 9000 rpm and 12.45 kgfm / 124Nm of torque at 6750 rpm. Just to compare, the new BMW R 1250 GS Adventure has 136 HP of maximum power and 14.5 kgfm / 145Nm of torque.
The gearbox has 6 speeds, the fuel tank capacity is 21 liters / 5.6 gal. and the dry weight (weight as shipped) is 228 kg / 527 lb.
Technology
The 2021 Pan America 1250 has 5 riding modes (Sport, Road, Rain, Off-Road and Off-Road Plus), plus a customizable one, which allows you to regulate the power delivery, engine brake, cornering enhanced ABS and the cornering enhanced traction control.
In addition, the ‘Special’ version features Showa BFF semi-active suspension at the front and Showa BFRC at the rear.
The instrument panel is fully digital in 6.8-inch color TFT, with connection to Smartphone via Bluetooth. There is also a USB-C socket.
Competitors and availability
Harley-Davidson Pan America arrives to compete mainly with BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx, KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, among others.
