2022 Yamaha MT-10 gains more power, visual updates and new colors

Share:

Yamaha launched in Europe the 2022 model of the ‘Hyper Naked’ MT-10, its most extreme 1000cc naked motorcycle. It arrives with a new, more powerful engine, compatible with the Euro5 anti-pollution standard, as well as visual updates, especially in the ‘face’ of the bike.

Starting with the design, the new 2022 Yamaha MT-10 gained a facelift mainly in its front optical assembly, with separate high and low beam for headlights, and an LED line just above for the DRL (Daytime Running Lights). It is similar to the previous model, but with less fairing, making it simpler but still very aggressive.

In addition, the ‘windshield’ is even smaller than the one on the previous model and the steering damper is located under the headlight. The rear was also reworked, with simpler lines.

Finally, the sides of the tank gained new, more muscular air intakes that, in addition to being bigger, are functional, as they helped increase the power of the new engine, which we’ll talk about below. Not to mention the ‘acoustic amplifier grills’ located in front of the fuel tank cap, which emit the thrilling intake sound of the CP4 engine.

Updated engine

As mentioned, the engine on the 2022 Yamaha MT-10 has been revised to meet Euro5 anti-pollution standard, with forged lightweight aluminum pistons, offset connecting rods and direct-plated cylinders to ensure maximum efficiency.

To boost the road-focused midrange revs, steel conrods are used rather than the titanium components used on the R1, and the moment of inertia at the crankshaft is increased.

In addition, fuel injection settings were changed for an even higher level of linear torque between 4,000 and 8,000 rpm – and the design of the intake and exhaust systems was also modified.

With this, the company says that fuel economy is improved, CO2 levels are reduced and this more powerful engine meets EU5 regulations.

The 2022 MT-10 has a liquid-cooled, 998 cm³ in-line 4-cylinder engine, capable of generating up to 122 kW (166 HP) of maximum power at 11,500 rpm, and 112 Nm (11.4 kgfm) of torque at 9,000 rpm.

Technology

The Yamaha MT-10 is one of the most equipped naked bikes on the market, and features a Brembo radial master cylinder, Quick Shift system, Yamaha variable speed limiter (which gives the rider the ability to set a maximum speed limit to suit the various situations), APSG ride-by-wire throttle with four power delivery modes (PWR), and 6-axis IMU with rider aids.

In addition, it features a Lean sensitive Traction Control System, Slide Control system (SCS), LIFT control system (LIF), Engine Brake Management (EBM), Brake Control (BC) and Yamaha Ride Control (YRC) with four riding modes.

Finally, it gets a new 4.2″ color TFT panel derived from the R1, which features a clear, easy-to-read screen with all the important information in plain sight.

Colors and availability

Yamaha will offer the new 2022 MT-10 in three color options: Cyan Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black. Deliveries to European Yamaha dealers will begin in February 2022.
