Gogoro announced today (08) the world’s first prototype of a swappable solid state lithium ceramic battery for electric motorcycles and scooters. Developed in conjunction with ProLogium Technology, the new Gogoro solid state battery prototype integrates with existing Gogoro vehicles and battery exchange network.
“Gogoro is launching the world’s first solid state battery for two-wheel battery replacement because it is imperative that we leverage the latest battery innovations to usher in a new era of growth and adoption of electric transportation in our cities,” said Horace. Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro.
“We’ve partnered with ProLogium Technology, a global leader in solid state battery innovation, to jointly develop this new battery that offers higher energy density for better range, improved stability and safety and is compatible with all existing Gogoro vehicles.” completed the executive.
As a next-generation battery chemistry, solid state lithium ceramic batteries are expected to replace traditional lithium-ion batteries and become the main source of energy for electric vehicles and consumer electronics.
Solid state batteries provide higher energy density and offer longer range for electric vehicles. Gogoro estimates that its solid state batteries will increase the capacity of current lithium batteries by 140% or more, from 1.7 kWh to 2.5 kWh.
“As global leaders in battery innovation, Gogoro and ProLogium have partnered to jointly design solid state battery prototypes that integrate with Gogoro’s battery exchange network and two-wheelers,” said Vincent Yang, Founder and CEO, ProLogium Technology.
“Solid state battery technologies present a new phase in the future of electric vehicles, and we look forward to advancing this prototype Gogoro battery into a commercial offering in the future.”
At the heart of Gogoro’s ecosystem is the Gogoro Network, an open and interoperable battery swapping platform that was recognized in 2021 by Guidehouse Insights as the leading battery swapping company for lightweight urban vehicles in the world.
Gogoro Network is a new generation of swappable battery refueling that is smart, scalable, and continually optimizing itself to be dynamic and versatile for people, communities, and businesses.
With more than 450,000 riders and over 10,000 battery swapping GoStations at over 2,300 locations, Gogoro Network is hosting 340,000 daily battery swaps with more than 260 million total battery swaps to date.
Gogoro Battery Swapping has become the de facto battery swapping standard for two-wheel vehicles in Taiwan, powering 95% of all electric two-wheelers.
